November 18, 2021
Way back in the deep dark past of 1969, Gail Weingast began her educational journey at Tufts University’s Jackson College, where she worked hard to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Obviously, it wasn’t clear at the beginning that she intended a career in medicine, but that must have resolved itself soon after, given the medical degree she earned from the Boston University School of Medicine.

She officially became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976, but as always, her medical education didn’t end with a medical degree. Following medical school, Dr. Gail Weingast completed an internship in pediatrics at Colorado General Hospital in Denverfrom 1976-1977 and she then followed that up with a two-year residency in pediatrics and another residency in the field of radiology and fellowship in the field of ultrasound between 1980 and 1983, also at Colorado General. Dr. Gail Weingast completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist in 1984, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.

Dr. Gail Weingast then practiced at a numerous other hospitals in Colorado, before going to New York for a while and then landing in her current position, as a top radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. She is now the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging at Backus. Throughout her more than 20 years there, she has managed to lead her department into the promised land. It is now seen as an elite radiology department; one of the finest in the country. Under her guidance, Backus Hospital is considered along with the premiere medical facilities in the United States.
